2012 is finally here and is the start of the biggest year of sport for our country in our lifetime. Barnsley's unique partnership with the 2012 Olympic host borough of Newham offers the chance for people in Barnsley to be part of it. Inspired by the Olympics and Newham Barnsley Partnership, BarnsleyBEST is a new volunteer scheme that aims to use this once in a lifetime opportunity to promote volunteering and participation in cultural events and local sports clubs.
WHAT YOU CAN GET INVOLVED IN…

- Enjoy sports and want to spend your spare time with people that share your passion?
There are opportunities for everyone. Whether you want to meet new people, develop new skills, or just do something you enjoy in your spare time. BarnsleyBEST will help you find something you want to do.
You can volunteer for a number of roles such as events marshals, stewards, information hosts and club roles such as coaching, treasurer, promotions, web design or administration.
EVENTS VOLUNTEERING…
With BarnsleyBEST you get to volunteer at a wide range of events like festivals, concerts and community events as:
- Even Team Leaders
- Disability Mentors
- Event Marshals

SPORTS VOLUNTEERING…
You don't need to be sporty to volunteer for sports clubs and with Barnsley BEST you can volunteer for a number of roles such as:
- Coaching
- Treasurer
- Promotions
- Fundraising
- Web Design
- Umpire
- Administration
- Grounds man
HOW DOES IT WORK?
BarnsleyBEST will:
- Send you regular e-mail newsletters about new volunteer roles, training opportunities and any announcements.
- Make sure that every volunteer role will have a description telling you all you need to know about the role, so you can decide if it's something you want to do.
- Make sure there will always be a person to support you whenever you volunteer.
- Pay any reasonable out-of-pocket expenses, e.g. CRB or training costs.
